Lors de ce stage de 3 jours, Shane Wolf démontrera et enseignera son approche à dessiner le nu d'après modèle avec la technique traditionnelle des Trois Crayons (du fusain, de la sanguine, et de la craie blanche). Rendu célèbre notamment par Rubens et répandue partout en Europe au 18è siècle, la technique des Trois Crayons permet une expression frappante et efficace du corps humain.
 
Les stagiaires s'exerceront beaucoup aux croquis et aux poses courtes pour découvrir et jouer avec la technique, ainsi qu'aux poses allant à 3 heures et plus pour mieux approfondir la richesse des formes avec les trois crayons.
 
En plus des jours du stage normaux, Shane fera également une démonstration du soir de 3 heures d'après modèle pour mieux décortiquer ses étapes pour créer une oeuvre. Les stagiaires pourront poser des questions tout au long de la démo.
 
During this 3-day intensive workshop, Shane Wolf will demonstrate and teach his approach to drawing the nude with the traditional Trois Crayons technique (charcoal, sanguine, and chalk). Popularised by Peter Paul Rubens and widely used throughout Europe in the 18th century, the Trois Crayons technique allows for a vivid and efficient expression of the human figure.
 
Students of this workshop will do a lot of gestural drawing with the trois crayons, as well as have several long poses of 3 hours or more in order to develop greater depth of form with the technique. 
 
In addition to the regular class days, Shane will also do a full 3-hour demo from the live model, showing his step by step approach to creating a figure drawing. Students will be able to ask questions during the entire demo.

Aujourd’hui nous regardons avec fascination, dans l'œuvre de Shane WOLF, un sujet—bien plus qu’un objet—pourtant très familier : le corps, notre corps. Nous-même. 
Devant les œuvres de Shane WOLF nous comprenons d’évidence toute la force de plusieurs siècles de culture picturale. Le style du peintre s’inspire du classicisme vénérant la beauté et l’équilibre. Il s’inspire tout autant d’un geste très contemporain qui donne un tour féroce à la chair contorsionnée. Ces deux éléments semblent s'opposer ; pourtant ils se rejoignent intimement. 
La présence réelle des corps s’impose avec puissance et vérité. Il semble que la peinture ne soit plus ici une simple représentation, mais une part du réel mise à notre portée. Et que nous côtoyons réciproquement en tant que spectateur. Le fait que Shane WOLF peint uniquement d’après des modèles vivants—usage millénaire pourtant devenu très rare chez les peintres contemporains—est l’essence même de ce réalisme. 
Il y a ainsi dans les tableaux de Shane WOLF quelque chose d'une volonté « baroque » justement induite par la grandeur des figures. Dans des perspectives élégantes et des contre-plongées habiles, le spectateur est mis au cœur de son œuvre. Car toutes ses intentions, qu’elles soient techniques ou « dramatiques » servent le même objectif : saisir le spectateur et l’attirer tout entier.
 
Shane Wolf is a direct heir of the momentous turning point in Art that was the Italian Renaissance: the representation of the human body in all its realism and glory. Through him, we can clearly grasp the might of several centuries of pictural heritage. The painter’s style is inspired by both academic classicism that venerates both beauty and poise as well as inspiration from a very contemporary posture that conveys a ferocious twist to contorted flesh. 
 
Movement contributes equally to his realism, and imbues his painted bodies with life. With no other painter does the word “dance” so spontaneously spring to mind: a sumptuous rhythm emerges, commanding the body to step back before returning in a powerful surge to the stage that is before our eyes. 
 
There is something magical that gives life and such striking presence to Shane's works of art. His paintings no longer appear to be just a simple representation, but part of a unique reality placed within our grasp. This realism is epitomized by the fact that Shane only paints from live models – a millennia-long tradition that has become very rare amongst contemporary artists. In his own words, "Working from Life should be priority number one. Everything else flows from there."
